Helen happens to be Madgie's great grandmother that she never knew even existed, since her grandmother, Odette Sorin, never wanted to mention her and her name throughout the rest of her life and her daughter's life. In their history, Helen was the head supreme of one of the witch covens deep in the heart of Romania, and was the daughter of an abusive hypocritical priest back when she was a child. Throughout her time, she wanted vengeance against her father and everyone that mocked and treated her wrong, along with wanting whatever every single perfect person had: wealth and power. With that said, she summoned an ancient demon that was supposedly alongside with Satan himself, and sold her eternal soul to him as he did to her. However, what the demon craved for was a female child to be betrothed to him; the 2nd generation of the Sorin family (which happened to be Madgie's mother).

What history Odette could cling onto about her mother, Helen had supposedly been burned at the stake by the religious locals, and she swore to have her revenge; that she will soon be reborn, and burn the heavens straight down to hell. In a way, Madgie currently holds her great grandmother's wrath inside her, and it's usually the reason why she tries her hardest not to lose any of her control; the ancient demon inside happens to be the rebirth of Helen Sorin herself.
