"You know you got a habit of staring at me with those owl eyes of yours, you notice that?" I answered finally from the long and disturbing silence we had once I said something about a certain someone trying to get my lips yesterday.
"Go on, this I got to hear." He said with such sympathy, as he sat back down on his stomach, and layed his head on his hand. What was he thinking, as if my whole life is some kind of story or something?
"Alan, it's a very long story, and I really don't wanna talk about it, not now, not ever. It's in the past, ancient history, end of story."
"Aww, come on. You kept your word on telling me stories, this counts as a story, too." He growled a little from my response about the whole situation, and calmed himself down.
I sighed.
"Fine, I'll tell you, but only if you promise not to mention this to anyone, nor tell me about this ever again?"
"Cross my heart." He held his hand up and crossed his heart.
I began to explain him about my problem I had with Ricky in 6th grade, mentioning the embarressing times and funny days we had that year, but all of it became like a fairytale, like nothing had ever happened. Explaining about what had happened to us both 2 years ago when I got so fed up with him that I gave up on him, and went my own way. Thinking that maybe he would've wanted that, but I guess now...he didn't want any of this to happen.
"Human love... clearly you were telling the truth that you humans have it hard on finding a mate. Forgive me if I ever doubted you." Alan said, shaking his head a little as he chewed on one of the sheep bones he established from the ground. Disgusting.
"Totally, so if you're dragon friends ever dream of wanting to be a human being, make this one as a first problem."
He laughed, shaking his mane to make it straight. It was quiet, as we both walked through the forest towards home. Somehow I began to feel bored, feeling my feet forming pain and shooting it through my legs, making me tired to walk. So instead of trying to entertain myself, I decided to stare at Alan as he continued on gnawing at that bone, one things for sure...that bone was tough. It made Alan bite on it so hard, that I think I heard a crack from maybe at his teeth, or the bone. Finally, the bone broke in two, and he actually swallowed them, turning to me and smiling as if it was nothing.
Suddenly, his eyes widened, and he began to make little choking noises under his breathe, what I had found out about my dragon friend...was that he was choking on the stupid bones.
"Umm, are you okay Alan?" I asked, trying to hold in my laugh, as my face began to feel so tight from my smile.
*Cough, Cough, Cough* Er, I'm...fine. One second..." He turned away from me, and began to punch his chest as he tried so hard to free the bones out of his throat's grasp. I was about to throw up from the sounds of his coughing and choking sounds he made. Within a minute, he spat out the 2 bones onto the floor, and grasped his throat with his claws.
I shook my head, and patted his shoulder. "That'll do Alan, that'll do." I said to him, then began to walk forward to my home.
"Ha,ha,ha." He laughed sarcastically, as he began to follow me from behind. For some strange reason, I felt a feeling...like, something is about to happen right now. Suddenly, I felt the impact of Alan's head hitting me from behind as he slid me onto the end of his neck right by his wings. Without breathing, he spread his wings away from my face, and launched us both into the air.
"WHOA!!! ALAN ARE YOU INSANE?!!" I yelled out from the sudden impact from the wind as it hit me while we flew up into the sky. Though I almost fell off of him, I managed to get a good grip on his mane, and pulled myself back up to his neck. Holding on tightly as I can, I suddenly closed my eyes from not seeing the ground under me as we flew in the sky.
"No, this is more faster and easier for you to go straight home, instead of walking all the way over there. I'm doing you a favor, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride." He sounded like one of those pilot ladies on the planes. I felt the movement of his body as he shifted to the left, and then to the right, going as fast as he could to take me back home before my mom came back.
"Well I would enjoy the ride, if I wasn't so afraid of heights, and if you would be so kind to slow down just a bit before I hurl!" I said, squeezing his neck so tight with my fingers, trying to stay still and hold on to him from falling.
"Will do, my little human friend." Suddenly, I felt nothing but the cool soft wind, and heard nothing but the sound of Alan's wings flapping as we flew in the air. I was too scared to even think of opening my eyes, never have I knew anything of what to do if a dragon took you to the air without even asking for your permission or something.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now." I heard him say in such a gentle voice. For once, I think this is the first time I've ever heard him talk so gentle, and to me.
"I...I can't." I began to wimper, feeling like such a baby in front of Alan.
"Why not, just open them slowly."
"I just can't. I tried to face my fears once, and I can't do it again, let's just leave it at that." I gripped at his neck even tighter, making him wiggling his neck free from my hard grasp so he can feel more comfortable.
"Miranda, you just got to face your fears someday, and that's now. Open your eyes, please....please."
I couldn't choose which to believe him, or to just ignore him and keep my eyes closed. But, he was right, I had to face my fears one way or another. I began to slowly open one eye, then the other, and felt myself loosing my grip from Alan's neck. The view was...magnificent! So incredible that I couldn't think of better words to say about this. The sky was as blue as the ocean, the clouds were like white cotton candy, and as I looked down, everything including the meadows and mountains looked like a little ant world. Oh, how I felt so foolish of myself of thinking that the height of the sky was like a death zone, but this was beautiful, that I felt sorry for doubting God about him making the sky look so frightening!
"Alan, this is...this is amazing!" I said in an amazed way.
"See, I told you. You see, we dragons have such a way of telling others the truth. You should never doubt a dragon, we would never hurt a soul, unless if they tried to hurt us first."
"Well, from now on, I believe you." Suddenly, I let go of Alan's neck, and spread my arms into the air, and began to shout with joy, bursting out all of my happy emotions into the air, as we flew.
I heard the sound of Alan's laughter as he heard me shout.
"WOOOOOHHOOOOOO!!!" We began to shout at the top of our lungs, together, a human girl, and a dragon...friends.
